Explanation
The
Andes Mountains are the
longest continental mountain range in the world, stretching approximately
7,000 km along the
western coast of South America — from
Venezuela in the north to
Chile and Argentina in the south. The Andes pass through a total of
seven countries: Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Chile, and Argentina.
Bolivia — The Andes run
prominently through western Bolivia, forming the
Altiplano (high plateau), one of the world’s highest and largest plateaus. ✅ Andes pass through Bolivia.
Brazil — Brazil is located to the
east of the Andes and is geographically separated from the mountain range. The terrain of Brazil is dominated by the
Amazon Basin and the Brazilian Highlands, not the Andes. ❌ Andes do not pass through Brazil.
Colombia — The Andes enter Colombia from the south and
split into three distinct branches — the Western, Central, and Eastern Cordilleras — making Colombia one of the most geographically significant Andean nations. ✅ Andes pass through Colombia.
Ecuador — The Andes run
centrally through Ecuador, dividing the country into the coastal region, the Andean highlands, and the Amazon basin. ✅ Andes pass through Ecuador.
Paraguay — Paraguay lies to the
east of the Andes on the
Paraguayan Plateau and has no connection to the Andes mountain range. ❌ Andes do not pass through Paraguay.
Venezuela — The
northernmost tip of the Andes enters
western Venezuela, making it the northernmost Andean country. ✅ Andes pass through Venezuela.
Therefore, the Andes pass through
Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, and Venezuela —
four out of six listed countries.
