Bhagavad Gita Chapter 2, Verse 7
पृच्छामि त्वां धर्मसम्मूढचेताः ।
यच्छ्रेयः स्यान्निश्चितं ब्रूहि तन्मे
शिष्यस्तेऽहं शाधि मां त्वां प्रपन्नम् ॥ ७ ॥
pṛcchāmi tvāṁ dharma-sammūḍha-cetāḥ
yac chreyaḥ syān niścitaṁ brūhi tan me
śiṣyas te ’haṁ śādhi māṁ tvāṁ prapannam
This is a turning point in the Bhagavad Gita. Arjuna openly admits that he is confused about his duty and unable to determine what is truly right. He recognizes that his judgment is clouded and that he cannot resolve the situation on his own.
For the first time, Arjuna shifts from arguing to seeking guidance. He accepts Krishna not merely as a friend, but as his teacher, and declares himself a disciple. He asks Krishna to instruct him and tell him with certainty what is truly beneficial.
This change is important because it marks the beginning of true learning. Arjuna is no longer seeking to justify his own position; he is ready to receive guidance. By acknowledging his confusion and becoming receptive to wisdom, he creates the foundation for Krishna’s deeper teachings that follow.
This verse highlights the importance of recognizing one’s limitations in moments of confusion. In positions of responsibility, individuals may face situations where their understanding is not sufficient to make the right decision.
The willingness to seek guidance, accept one’s uncertainty, and learn from a trusted source is a key aspect of effective leadership. Clarity often begins when one moves from assumption to inquiry.
